Slade enjoyed phenomenal success in many countries around the world, but particularly in their native England. The US, however, never quite "got" Slade, though New York, Philadelphia, St. Louis and a few other cities had large, enthusiastic fan bases. I discovered Slade in 1972 as a young teenager and they fast became my favorite band. Slade''s marketing in the US was conflicted. They were basically a hard rock band with a strong melodic streak but appeared in America heralded as the "next Beatles" dressed in Glam Rock outfits that looked clownish to American audiences. Slade came from the same English Black Country backgrounds as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and others but unlike those "serious" rock bands, they wrote very catchy tunes that became top 20 hits in England (six #1s). English friends remind me that Glam grew out of the very dark economic times in England following WWII and the specific severe economic downturn of the early 70s. Being "colorful" visually, loud and raucous musically, was an antidote to those times. Slade was not a natural Glam band, but they capitalized on it to great commercial success...in England. America was a different story and many US rock fans wrote them off. I think those same people would be very surprised listening to this collection. For me, it''s a fond trip down memory lane. It''s nice to buy a "new" Slade record in 2020, even though I''ve heard all these songs many times before. I''ve read that this album has made the Top 10 in England, though that no longer means what it once did. Still, good on them. Keep on rockin''!

My only question when I saw the pre-release listing was, "Will this sound as good as the 2015 collection should have?" Just 5 years later?! Yes, it does! It''s also a lesson in original recordings; what ain''t there, ain''t there. This great collection (10 more tracks than the 2015 one), sonically, runs the gamut.

The earliest hits weren''t all that well recorded. No amount of remastering can address everything that they are lacking. They were recorded with the amps and drummer on one side of an in-studio wall, and they played guitars sang into the mikes on the other side---all live! Still, they are much better here than the 2015 collection.

However, because this collection includes tracks recorded several years later than their first releases, the original recordings of those tunes were laid down with better recording equipment and techniques (and, once you made hits, your label would let you spend more money and time on your next LP), so it makes the remastered sound quality almost like a contemporary recording. This is not exactly consistent from track to track, but it''s the best we''re gonna get, ever, so I''ll take it, most gladly. At it''s worst, it''s still miles better than anything else available, and at its best it''s a pretty pleasant surprise all-around. The extra tracks are really interesting; a little like, "Slade Grows Up," but their earlier enthusiasm is still full-on. If you really like Slade, or even think that you do, or might, someday, get this. The sound quality alone is worth acquiring it. The added tracks make it a real score.

Give away your 2015 copy to someone you think might like it, but you KNOW is gonna play it on a boom box.

this is a great remastered 2 cd set of 27 killer slade hits that where recorded back in the 1970s & 80s. for me i love everything slade did ( or almost everything) from 1969 through 1982 the live ON STAGE record from 1982 was a monster but in 1983 SLADE TRIED TO CRACK THE US AGAIN & SADLY that was at a time when mtv where booming & the record companies controlled most of the bands and there sound. anyway i get most all my favorite hits here from the 70s as slade where so powerful back then, i had even read in the late ( pil lynott thin lizzy) autobiography that thin lizzy where put on a uk tour with slade in 1973 and took a massive beating , in fact the crowd where so rough on thin lizzy the first night of the tour that lynott was left in tears backstage after the show, anyway sadly slade never cracked the us to much but briefly had a good run here from 1972 through 1975 and i have been told that on the 1973 us tour kiss where the openers and when you listen to the kiss alive #1 record from 1975 the crowd noise used for that record was from A FEW OF THE SLADE SHOWS IN 73 ( wich i can belive) anyway there is no point in me going into wich of these hits are MY FAVORITES but if you where into slade back in the day you will love this collection!!!! this comes in a nice slipcase and the cd set opens up into a tri fold sleeve THE HITS ARE IN NO ORDER BASED ON THE 1970S or 80S but like i said before once slade started doing albums again in the us back in 1983 like KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF MY POWER SUPPLY ( wich was very good) they where never the same band again sadly, i know dave hill still gigs some form of slade in the uk & europe the past 15/20 years but without NODDY HOLDER it cant be slade like SAXON cant be SAXON without BIFF BYFORD AS THE FRONT MAN..............

Cum On Feel The Hitz, is a wonderful collection of Slade songs that highlight the phenomenon known as Slade! The first LP covers the singles that made Slade huge in Europe. Fabulous songs that somehow eluded them major success in America. However, you''ll note that "Cum on Feel the Noize" became a huge hit in America when it was covered by Quiet Riot. The second LP is the real gem for me as it highlights the progression in Slade''s material as the band persevered well into the Eighties. I highly recommend this double LP version for it''s ability to capture this great band''s attributes throughout the band''s career.

I''ll never forget the first time I heard "Slade" play live. It was in St. Louis, Mo. where they always did well. Way back in February of 1974 at a 3000 plus concert venue converted from an old movie theatre named the Ambassador I sat and watched as Slade began to play and very quickly blew a piece of electrical equipment out and the sound stopped until repairs were made. They then proceeded to play a lot of the selections on this CD. I really enjoyed them. Too bad they really only established popularity in St. Louis, Philadelphia and New York. They played loud and long. But American radio never played Slade and Americans were deprived of hearing them. I still enjoy Slade and this collection has songs I never heard before which made my purchase all the more rewarding.

Excellent value gatefold cardboard sleeve double CD with every Slade hit there was with 43 tracks altogether and bearing in mind if you buy the vinyl version you only get half that so a bit disappointing if your a vinyl lover like me. This has put me off getting the vinyl version in the first place. This is a much better sound quality than the last Best of Slade we had back in 2005 and it covers every hit there was not leaving some out. Noddy Holder is one of the best strongest vocalists I''ve ever heard and certainly one of the loudest, Bon Scott came very close to him. Slade are one of the best rock bands of all time on stage they sound as good as they do in the studio and that dose not happen with a lot of artists. Slade are still around of course but not as good without Noddy. If your young and just discovered Slade for the first time also check out Slade in Flame, Alive, Slayed and Old New Borrowed and Blue they made music to last and I for one who have seen them a few times with Noddy and been a fan for 50 years now still feel the noize as well as the quality of great music. Here is the full track list (see photo).

43 tracks of hits and lesser known songs proves the longevity and versatility of Slade from 1970 to 1991, they were the top selling British band in the 70''s and were successful almost everywhere in the world except America. The USA finally took to Slade in 1984 when Run Run Away was #20 and My On My #37 in the singles chart and the repackaged CBS album Don''t Take Your Hands off my Power Supply was #33. The heady years from 1971-1974 in UK included 6 #1 singles, 3 topped the charts on day of release, 3 #1 albums plus Slade Alive which peaked at #2 in UK but stayed on the album chart for 12 months. Slade were a fantastic live band and carried on touring after relocating to America 75-76 to return to UK in the midst of punk! I saw Slade a few times in the so called wilderness years 78-79, they blasted Reading Festival in 1980 and Monsters of Rock 1981 to complete an unlikely comeback. In 1983 My Oh My was held a #2 although Slade were denied a #1 single 10 years after Merry Xmas Everybody with the way the Xmas chart was compiled back then. This double cd set shows that Slade were more than a glam band or one trick ponies, Jim Lea and Noddy Holder were far better song writers than that and are shockingly overlooked these days.

I am old enough to have seen their only performance at Reading Rock Festival, not going to give you the date, and live through the Glam Rock Years in the 70''s. Coming from Walsall, my Mums home town, I knew about them from the beginning and loved pretty much everything they ever produced. But, as I got older, had responsibilities, multiple children and pets I kinda only heard the hits now and then. So I sat down today and listened to this from start to finish and I am so glad I did - it is fantastic I had forgotten just how good the non-single music they produced is so I just turned it up and plugged myself in, I thank the whole band for putting out this restored CD. If you remember those days or just like a good old bit of classic Rock then buy it, you won''t be disappointed.
